Mystery Rosy Ooze on Remote Tasmanian Coast Raises Concerns of Likely Algae Outbreak

Officials in the island state are attempting to pinpoint a pink slime that has surfaced on a remote shoreline, with some scientists concerned it could be an algal bloom.

The rosy-colored ooze was found on a section of a southern bay about 37 miles south of the city. A similar sludge has also been documented on areas of another local beach and Little Taylors Bay.

Examples have been collected and sent to the Environment Protection Authority for examination. A official commented that "algae outbreaks are a normal phenomenon in reaction to shifts in minerals, temperature, rain or light".
